Our Mission Statement'To broaden and deepen the life of the worshipping community within the team, to reach out to the wider community and to equip everyone to serve Jesus Christ' • Optimising our existing strengths where all of our team Churches are perceived as an integral part of the life of the local community. • Increasing the positive use and training of lay ministry. • Celebrating our diversity of worship within the team. • Wisely managing all our available resources. The Team Vicar ~ The Revd. Alan SheathThe Team Vicar has responsibility for Awliscombe, Combe Raleigh and Monkton. The House for Duty Priest ~ The Revd. Canon Richard SaundersI have had incumbencies in Yorkshire and in Bristol and have been in the village of Gittisham for eighteen years. My family are scattered but my grand-children come to stay with me often. I have always tried to take a full part in village affairs and participate as much as possible in various voluntary activities in Honiton. The Curate ~ The Revd Ann PollingtonPrevious to my coming to Honiton I lived in Uckfield, East Sussex, apart from the years 1997 – 2000 when I lodged in West Sussex while I studied for a degree at Chichester. I trained at Ripon College Cuddesdon during which time I had a nine week placement in inner-city Sheffield, which reinforced my belief that my ministry would be within a market town/rural area! Before I went to college, I had for several years worked on two nurseries, growing various plants, and had a time in a garden centre selling direct to the public. I believe my love for gardening and the seasons of the year has a direct link with my love for the seasons of the liturgical year. My hobbies are singing, gardening, walking and collecting map postcards and I have felt very much “at home” in Honiton since my first visit. The Team CouncilAlthough each parish within the Team has its own PCC and is responsible for its own finances and appointment of officers, we also have a Team Council which meets quarterly. This comprises 20 members including the clergy, and all the parishes are represented. The council is chaired by a lay-person and various matters are discussed including team worship, social events, our links with the schools and sharing of common concerns. Through the council strong and friendly links between the congregations are maintained. The GroupThe parishes of the Deanery are now in three informal group ministries gathered round the larger towns of the Deanery. These are to be the Axminster Group, the Honiton Group and the Coastal Group. The Honiton Team Parishes remain as one benefice and team but we are now also to be part of a larger informal group linking with two other benefices ~ Dunkeswell, Luppitt, Sheldon and Upottery (Incumbent, The Revd Nick Wall) and Offwell, Northleigh, Farway, Cotleigh and Widworthy (Incumbent, The Revd Stephen Dunwoody). In this new structure we are all still responsible for our own benefices but we are committed to supporting each other within our group and sharing resources wherever possible. |
